Behind the scenes with our BootCamp Athlete of the Month, Morgan!
What made you decide to join our Novem BootCamp?
I made the commitment initially to try one class. It was so hard to go on that first day when I didn’t know anyone and was pretty out of shape. I had those total “new kid” feelings that first day. I remember not being sure about what was going on and not confident at all in the movements. During that first class I could barely keep up but I loved the coach and friendly atmosphere so I decided to come back. After a few weeks of 1-2 classes a week, I decided to become a member. At that time I was still struggling to learn the movements, build strength, and endurance. Now less than 6 months later, I’m hooked and seeing results! Not only has my body gotten leaner and toned but I’ve also started to see a shift my overall affect, strength, and endurance. I’ve also made some new friends along the way.
Name a fitness goal that you have.
Complete a chipper in the given time; move to full pushups rather than knees.
Tell us one thing about yourself that no one in the gym knows about you.
I weighed over 260lbs in high school and lost 90lbs a little over 10 years ago. All of these years later I still struggle with body dysmorphia (seeing my body as I am today versus how it was in the past).
What is your Athletic background?
I’ve done a lot of spin, yoga, and trying to like running – yup still hate running – but I never felt like an athletic person. Bootcamp has helped me tap into my inner athlete.
What is your Favorite and Least Favorite Movement? Why?
Favorite: Clean and Jerk – I love the power of using my hips and glutes to lift heavier weights. This movement has helped me realize and improve upon my strength!
Least Favorite: Any weighted lunges – I have pretty unbalanced hips so lunges in
general always call attention to that imbalance and slow me down in a workout.
How has BootCamp changed your outlook on everyday life?
Bootcamp has helped me commit to a consistent fitness and wellness life style. I’ve altered, and continue to tweak, my eating habits to help my performance at the gym because for me, functional fitness requires my body to be fueled properly. Also, I’ve become a morning person! Some days I wake up in the 5am hour just to make sure I hit a 6am
cla ss to get my day started right – prior to BootCamp that would have been unheard of!
