Behind the scenes with our CrossFit Novem’s Athletes of the Month, Vincent!
What got you into CrossFit?
I had been doing the aimless gym rat thing since high school – A simple bodybuilding circuit that didn’t really do much. After a while I couldn’t find motivation anymore, and would occasionally just walk into my corporate gym and not really feel like doing anything. A few years of knowing some people that did crossfit, and knowing I could train in a class, as an athlete I knew motivation wouldn’t be an issue anymore.
Name a fitness goal that you have.
Currently, it’s to hit a bodyweight snatch, and a 205 lb clean and jerk. My overhead work isn’t so great.
Tell us one thing about yourself that no one in the gym knows about you.
I was once a minor villain in an indie Queer Afrofuturist art film. I wore a white suit and was brightly lit so that I glowed ominously.
What is your Athletic background?
I played soccer growing up, up til high school, roller hockey as a kid until I was about 16, ice hockey in the winters, and wrestling that one winter in 8tb grade. With that, pretty regular with some poor weight lifting.
Favorite Benchmark, wod, and lift.
Favorite benchmark is Diane (21 15 9, dead lift and HSPU), and I just tend to favor short WODs in general… I’m a big baby. My favorite lift by far is the classic back squat.
How has CrossFit impacted your life?
I’m actually the strongest I’ve been in my life. It has led me to be able to follow my dream of becoming a pro wrestler, in confidence and strength. On top of that, the people I’ve met have become sincerely valued friends, and even customers at my barber shop. I feel comfortable finding CrossFit communities in New cities, and know that I can take these functional skills everywhere.
