Behind the scenes with our BootCamp Athlete of the Month, Leanna.
What made you decide to join our Novem BootCamp?
I was looking to shake up my workout routine because I felt like just going to the gym a few times a week to park myself on a cardio machine was not effective. My neighbor/co-worker/friend Myriah was also in the market for a new workout program so she dragged me along to try out Novem. We both immediately fell in love and knew we had to become part of the Novem family! I can’t believe I actually look forward to working out now.
Name a fitness goal that you have.
I want to speed up my burpees! They always slow me down and when there’s a high volume it becomes a mind game to trudge through them.
Tell us one thing about yourself that no one in the gym knows about you.
I studied abroad in Tokyo, Japan for a year and love to travel.
What is your Athletic background?
I tried almost every sport growing up, but I stuck with lacrosse in high school. In college, I started running as a way to explore Philly. I have done Broad Street Run the past few years and just ran my first half-marathon last fall.
What is your Favorite and Least Favorite Movement? Why?
Favorite – I enjoy the 6 or 8 minute EMOMs that set your abs on fire. They are tough, but I like when my abs are sore the next day to remind me of the hard work I put in.
Least Favorite – Wall Balls. I feel lame for always using the lightest ball, but I’m terrible at throwing things. Plus, they’re like squats but meaner.
How has BootCamp changed your outlook on everyday life?
I feel like I can conquer anything now! I never thought I was capable of doing something like BootCamp and now I’m genuinely excited to go and tackle the day’s workout. Waking up for 6AM classes can be a struggle, but it always helps me be more alert and energized throughout the day. I’ve never been this committed to a workout plan, so it’s helping me learn discipline and perseverance.
