Behind the scenes with our BootCamp Athlete of the Month, Luis!
What made you decide to join our Novem BootCamp?
I’ve always been very active and had tried out different gyms with the goal of meeting new friends and building a community. However, none of them offered this experience. My wife Katy had been going to Crossfit and Bootcamp for a while and she was the one who recommended to try it out. After trying it out for a week, I went all in and started going every day!
Name a fitness goal that you have.
Climb up the rope – It has always been a struggle due to my lack of upper-body strength.
Tell us one thing about yourself that no one in the gym knows about you.
I was born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico and have been living in the US for 9 years (2 years in OK, 3 years in TX, 1 year in NY and 3 years in PA).
What is your Athletic background?
I started running back in 2009 and haven’t stopped ever since. I caught the triathlon bug last year and I am currently training for a ½ Ironman in June – 2018 goal!
What is your Favorite and Least Favorite Movement? Why?
Favorite movement – Double Unders. I always enjoy the jump rope and I feel exhausted after several rounds. Least Favorite – Box jumps. My knees hurt after several jumps and also some discomfort on my heels. I definitely need to get better at my form.
How has BootCamp changed your outlook on everyday life?
I have a sense of accomplishment every time I finish working out. If it’s with the 6 AM crew, it definitely wakes me up and when I switch and workout with the 5 PM crew, it feels like my day is complete.
