When Are You an Rx+ Athlete?

We love being able to offer different levels of programs to our athletes. Those of our beginners that are still perfecting movements are encouraged to scale, our more seasoned athletes fulfill our rx standards, and our more accelerated clients- the ones with a competition focus, are the ones in mind when we write our rx+ workouts. Out of the all the options for scaling load, range, and volume- how do you know which workout is best for you?

1. Can you perform all of the movements safely? Sure, you’re capable of a 135lb. thruster- but on rep number 10 of 20, are you hyperextending in the lower back? Are you reaching full range in the lock out overhead? Are you losing tension in the bottom of your squat? To be capable is NOT the same as being proficient. Be honest with your self, integrity is how you move when no one is watching.

2. Does the workout achieve the same stimulus? If you can do Cindy with handstand push ups, butterfly pull ups, and pistols (read: Mary) but in the 20 minute timeframe you only achieve 2 rounds- is that the intention of the workout? When you’re unclear, ask the Coach what the goal of the workout is: to finish in an 8-9 minute range? To complete rounds as quickly as possible? To spend more time in the aerobic range with a 20 minute workout? Our programming only works if its followed, and we’re here to cater to your specific abilities.

3. What does your recovery look like? Are you a weekend warrior that goes hard Monday-Friday but relaxes on the weekend and stays seated throughout most of your work day? Are you diligent about mobilizing and activating your movement patterns that need more work? Are you spending time outside of the gym bettering what you do inside of the gym? With a higher demand placed on the body, your body demands a higher necessity for recovery. If you want to be a go hard, put your money where your mouth is.
