Behind the scenes with our Barbell Athlete of the Month, Mike Noble!
How or when did your focus shift to concentrating on Novem’s Barbell Club programming?
I was immediately on board when Novem announced the powerlifting track for their Weightlifting Class. I’ve tried being powerlifting-focused during CrossFit and Open Gym for years, but it wasn’t until Lesha’s dedicated programming that I was able to give it proper attention.
Tell us one thing about yourself that no one in the gym knows about you.
I have a side hustle as an eSports commentator. This question is actually impossible because Cathy London knows everything about me.
What is your Athletic background?
In high school I was on the swim team. To this day it’s the only cardio exercise that I’m any good at. I also hold a black belt in Taekwondo, but at this point I would probably retrain from scratch.
What is your favorite of the two competition lifts and why?
My favorite is by far the deadlift. It’s proportionally been my best lift for years and the one that really showed me that putting dedicated time and effort into lifting can yield outstanding results.
What do you find most rewarding with the competition style of lifting?
I love the positive atmosphere that comes along with training lifts. Most of this atmosphere is thanks to the guys and girls of The Yard, the regulars of the powerlifting crew. We’re all there for each other and have become a very tight-knit group in just a few short months.
Do you have any goals or aspirations to compete?
After being put in my place at a powerlifting meet three years ago I want to have solid numbers before considering competition again. My current goal is to focus on bench press and get it up to speed with my other two lifts.
How has Novem Barbell Club impacted your training and your life?
I’ve been dating a Novem member for three and a half years (who I met at two Novem members’ birthdays), my home is a Novem member’s rental, and my best friends are a current and former Novem member. Novem IS my life.
