Novem BootCamp’s Athlete of the Month: Hillary

Behind the scenes with our BootCamp Athlete of the Month, Hillary!

What made you decide to join our Novem BootCamp?

I was feeling really crappy about how out of shape I was, and also, honestly the fact that 6AM classes were available was a huge plus. After having two kids it can be really hard to find time to work out. I am not motivated enough to workout on my own and absolutely need the accountability of a class. 6AM classes work perfectly with my schedule, and I love my 6AM crew!

Name a fitness goal that you have.

Improving running is always a goal, because I truly loathe it so much. I would also like to someday do a pull up without bands!

Tell us one thing about yourself that no one in the gym knows about you.

I work as a psychiatric nurse practitioner and work with young adults who are in the beginning stages of being diagnosed with schizophrenia. It’s challenging but rewarding work.

What is your Athletic background?

I was a serious competitive gymnast till around age 12. I think the reason pull ups are my goal is because when I was in 5 th grade, during the presidential fitness test I did more pull ups than anyone else in the school. Then I was on the diving team all through middle and high school. Athletics have not been a big focus these past 15 years….mostly just yoga and failed attempts to get into some workout regimen, until now!

What is your Favorite and Least Favorite Movement? Why?

I like anything on the bar, being a former gymnast, it’s just fun to hang on there. Least favorite is seals walks, they’re just terrible.

How has BootCamp changed your outlook on everyday life?

I feel better about myself! This is the longest I have worked out consistently in a REALLY long time, and it’s amazing how much it has improved my mood and sleep and stress level. I also love being an example to my kids, on how to be healthy, and its nice to get less winded running around the playground!
